OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Junior Katelyn
Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep) totaled five points and
scored two goals, including the game-winner, to give Stevenson
its first win of the season, 3-1 over FDU-Florham Sunday at Caves
Athletics Complex in the Black Eyed Susan Tournament.
After being held to just one goal over its first two games, the
Mustangs (1-2) scored two in the second half to break open a 1-1
tie at halftime.
Manocheh had a hand in all three Stevenson goals and as a
result, was named to the all-tournament along with junior
Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry Hall) who had a
defensive save in Saturday's loss to Delaware Valley.
On Sunday, Manocheh put the Mustangs on the board less than
11 minutes in when she scored on a loose ball in the circle
following a penalty corner.
However, the Devils (2-1) would answer only 5:42 later when
Marybeth Weimer scored her third goal in the last two days on
rebound to tie the game at 1-1 with just over 19 minutes remaining
in the half.
Both teams were pretty evenly matched in the first half
with FDU managing a 5-4 edge in shots and Stevenson
holding a 9-7 margin in penalty corners.
Junior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) was a
big key for the Mustangs as stopped four of the five shots she
faced to keep the Devils at bay. In two previous games, both
victories, FDU had outscored its opponents, 8-1.
Neither team could get the upper hand at the start of the second
half until Manocheh scored her second goal of the game with
less than 17 minutes remaining off an assist from senior
Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry Hall) on a penalty
corner. It was Manocheh's third career multi-goal game, all of
which have come over the team's last seven games.
With 3:57 left, Manocheh picked up her first assist of the
season when she sent a ball towards the cage on Stevenson's 15th
penalty corner of the game that was redirected into the goal by
junior Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore/Perry Hall) for
her first of the season.
Zimmerman made seven saves in the contest while her counterpart
Kayleigh White had five.
The Mustangs will carry their momentum into a 13-day layoff
before returning to action on Saturday, September 19 at home
against Roanoke.
