OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson junior
Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore/Perry Hall) scored the
game's only goal and her team-leading second of the season to lead
the Mustangs to its second consective win, 1-0 over Roanoke
Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex.
Stevenson (2-2) has now won four of its last six at home and is
11-6 over the last two seasons. It is also the team's first shutout
since a 4-0 win over Cedar Crest at home on Sept. 13, 2008.
After a scoreless and evenly matched first half, the Mustangs
dominated the second half, holding an 11-2 advantage in shots and a
10-0 edge in penalty corners.
With 27:25 remaining in the second half, Sauers would score the
game's lone goal on Stevenson's fifth penalty corner of the half
and their 10th of the game, assisted by junior Katelyn
Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep).
The Mustangs finished the game with a 15-4 margin in corners.
Sauers and Manocheh are tied for the team for the team lead with
two goals apiece while Manocheh leads the team with six points
after picking up her second assist.
Sophomore Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) made
five saves in goal for Stevenson while Cristina Scichilone
also had five.
The Mustangs will look for their third-straight win on Sunday
when they host local rival McDaniel at Caves Athletics Complex
beginning at 2:00 p.m. A win would match the team's season-long win
streak from a year ago when it set a new school record with 10
wins.
