STEVENSON, Md. - Playing in the final home
matches of their careers on Saturday, the four Stevenson University
men's volleyball seniors continued to add to their accomplishments
and to the team's record for wins in a season as the Mustangs swept
two matches against Bard and Lehman Saturday at Student Union
Gymnasium.
Stevenson (18-11) swept Bard in three games, 30-25, 30-24, 30-25
before knocking off Lehman in the finale, 30-12, 33-31, 21-30,
30-25.
The school's career leader in kills, senior J.R. Jackson
(Havre de Grace/Havre de Grace) totaled 26 kills in his
final two home matches and now has 1,423 in 374 games for an
average of 3.80 per game. He also had five block assists and one
block solo.
The school's career leader in digs, senior Steve
Grossnickle (Perry Hall/Calvert Hall) added 21 more on
Saturday and now 751. He also had 18 kills, including 10 against
Bard for his sixth career double double and fourth this season.
The school's career leader in total blocks, senior Ryan
McDowell (Germantown/Seneca Valley) had five this
afternoon, raising his career total to 307 in just three seasons.
He also holds the school record for block assists with 216.
In just two seasons with the Mustangs, senior Anthony
Cammarata (Fallston/Calvert Hall) has totaled 704 assists
and 334 digs, 18 of which came on Saturday.
Against Bard, sophomore Jason Matkowski (Warminster,
Pa./William Tennent) totaled a match-high 17 kills while
adding six digs and four total blocks. Jackson and McDowell each
had eight kills with Grossnickle and Cammarata totaling 10
digs apiece.
Freshman Dean Massimini (Washington Township,
N.J./Washington Township) had 13 digs to lead all
players while totaling 45 assists.
Jackson led the way against Lehman with 18 kills and a .361
hitting percentage as he was the only Mustang to reach double
figures. McDowell and Grossnickle added eight each while junior
David Lloyd (Germantown/Seneca Valley) and
Grossnickle added 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
Massimini led the team defensively for the second consecutive
match with a career-high 20 digs to go along with a career-best 52
assists.
