LANCASTER, Pa. - The Stevenson University men's
volleyball team won its fourth match out of the last five with a
3-0 sweep at Lancaster Bible in a NECVA Western Division match
Wednesday night after opening with a 3-0 victory over York (N.Y.).
The wins were the eighth and ninth of the season
for the Mustangs (9-6, 2-3 NECVA West), seven of which have
come by 3-0 margins.
Against the Cardinals (3-14), freshman Caleb Duff (Belle
Glade, Fla./Belle Glade) totaled a career-high 10 kills to
lead Stevenson offensively while senior Anthony Cammarata
(Fallston/Calvert Hall) added 15 assists and junior
David Lloyd (Germantown/Seneca Valley) had 10
digs.
Sophomore Jim Davis (Fallston/Calvert Hall) had
a career-high nine digs for the Mustangs who overcame a .117
hitting percentage and 13 service errors.
In its sweep of Lancaster Bible (4-11, 1-6 NECVA West), senior
J.R. Jackson (Havre de Grace/Havre de Grace),
sophomore Jason Matkowski (Warminster, Pa./William
Tennent) and senior Ryan McDowell
(Germantown/Seneca Valley) combined for 37 of Stevenson's
54 kills and combined to post a .429 hitting percentage.
Jackson totaled a match-high 17 kills and hit .483 while
Matkowski had 11 kills and a .391 hitting percentage and McDowell
added nine kills and a .389 percentage.
Matkowski and junior Steve Grossnickle (Perry
Hall/Calvert Hall) each added a match-high 16 digs as
Matkowski totaled his second double double in the last three
matches. Freshman Dean Massimini (Washington Township,
N.J./Washington Township) had 25 assists while Cammarata
had nine to go along with eight digs.
Stevenson returns to Student Union Gymnasium on Saturday for its
first home match since February 3 when the Mustangs host a
tri-match with New Jersey City and Hilbert. Stevenson beat New
Jersey City 3-0 on February 7 before sweeping Hilbert last
Saturday.
