Stevenson Falls to Washington in Home Opener, 75-58

STEVENSON, Md. - For the second time in the last four days, Andrew Chambers led Washington (Md.) in scoring, adding a game-high 22 points on Tuesday night as the Shoremen handed Stevenson a 75-58 loss at Student Union Gymnasium in the Mustangs' home opener.

Chambers also added five rebounds and four assists as Washington (2-2) outscored Stevenson 42-30 in points in the paint while totaling 18 offensive rebounds and holding a 47-35 advantage in rebounds.

Junior guard Greg Collins (Baltimore/Western Tech) tied Chambers with a game-high 22 points which also marked a career-high 22. His previous best was 20 points which he set at Washington almost a year ago today on Nov. 25, 2008.

In the last two games, Collins, who was named to the all-tournament team at the Pride of Maryland Championship presented by M&T Bank on Sunday, has totaled 39 points and 18 rebounds. In two career games versus Washington, he has totaled 42 points and 11 rebounds.

After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Mustangs (0-5) used a 21-9 run to take its first lead at 28-27 with 1:35 remaining before a lay-up by Adam Naymick gave the Shoremen a one-point halftime lead.

Washington shot 48.6 percent in the second half compared to 32.3 percent for Stevenson which enabled it to open up an 18-point lead. The Shoremen scored 26 of their 46 second half points in the paint and held a plus-nine edge in rebounding.

Chambers scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half, going 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Keith Holtman (Baltimore/Eastern) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with five points and four rebounds while junior Broderick Hill (Bowie/Bishop McNamara) had six points.

Freshman Zach Cooke (Morgantown, W. Va./Cushing Academy) also added six points to set a career-high in just his fifth game.

The Shoremen's Adam Naymick just missed his second double double in as many meetings with the Mustangs this season as he finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. He totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday.

Alan Kines added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts a non-conference contest with Roanoke at Student Union Gymnasium beginning at 2:00 p.m.
