SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson field hockey junior
Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) totaled 20
saves, including 11 in the second half, to become the Mustangs'
all-time career leader in a 5-0 CAC road loss at No. 2 Salisbury
Tuesday at Sea Gull Stadium.
It was the second time this season and in Zimmerman's career
that she had at least 20 saves. Earlier this year, she had a
career-high 28 saves in a 7-0 loss at No. 7 Lebanon Valley on
October 3.
Zimmerman now has 387 career saves, surpassing the previous
school record of 370 set by Kim Forbes from 1998-99.
Despite outshooting Stevenson 13-0 in the first half and holding
a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners, Salisbury (12-1, 5-0
CAC) could not get on the board until there was less than five
minutes remaining.
Zimmerman stopped eight of the first nine shots she faced. The
other was saved by junior Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry
Hall) who totaled her 13th defensive save in 14 games this
season.
Will Pfrang would net the eventual game-winner on her third goal
of the season with 4:48 remaining in the half to give the Sea Gulls
a 1-0 halftime lead.
Salisbury scored four goals in the second half after holding a
17-1 advantage in shots and a 19-1 margin in corners. Emily
Ellenberger had a hand in two as she totaled a goal and one assist.
The Sea Gulls' second-leading scorer, Beverly Beladino, scored
her ninth of the season while Katie Lamboni and Ashley Kisner each
picked up their first of the season.
Anna Cooke finished with one save on the only shot of the game
for Stevenson (4-11, 2-5 CAC) as Salisbury posted its eighth
shutout of the season.
The Mustangs travel to Richard Stockton for a non-conference
contest with the Ospreys beginning at noon on Saunday.
