WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson University men's
basketball senior center Kerry Dugan
(Sparks/Hereford) totaled his third consecutive double
double with 21 points and 17 rebounds, both career-highs,
to help the Mustangs snap a four-game losing streak with a
65-62 road victory over Gallaudet Saturday evening at the Field
House.
The win was the second in the last three conference games for
Stevenson (3-10, 2-2 CAC) who moved into a fourth place tie in the
CAC with Salisbury after the Sea Gulls' 77-70 victory at York (Pa.)
Saturday.
Both teams are behind Mary Washington, St. Mary's (Md.) and
Wesley, all of whom have undefeated conference records.
Dugan totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds in the second half en
route to his sixth double of the season, all of which have come in
the last 10 games. Over the last three games, he has averaged 17.7
points and 16.3 rebounds.
Senior guard Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint
Joseph) added 13 points, five rebounds and five steals
while senior guard Chaise Lancaster
(Bowie/Northwestern) had 11 points, four rebounds, three
assists and two steals.
Stevenson was able to outlast the Bison thanks to a second half
effort that saw it overcome 13 turnovers and a 24.1 percentage
field goal percentage. The difference came at the free throw line
where the Mustangs took advantage of 17 Gallaudet fouls which led
to 15 of their 29 second half points.
For the game, Stevenson was 26-of-37 from the line compared to
just 8-of-10 for the Bison. Dugan and Woody combined to make
17-of-20 attempts while the rest of the team was 9-of-17.
Senior forward Ely Richardson (Hartford, Conn./Suffield
Academy) had nine points and six rebounds for the Mustangs
in just 12 minutes of action.
Jon Howl scored a game-high 22 points for Gallaudet (7-4, 0-4
CAC), but committed seven turnovers. Tony Tatum added 14 points.
Stevenson will have a week off before returning to the court
against Marymount (Va.) next Saturday at 8:00 p.m., on the road.
The Saints trail the Mustangs by just a half-game in the standings
following their 65-57 loss at Wesley on Saturday.
