YORK, Pa. - York (Pa.) used strong defense and
timely hitting to hand the Stevenson University women's volleyball
team its second loss in its last three matches, 18-25, 25-19,
27-25, 25-23 Tuesday night at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
The Spartans (10-8, 1-2 CAC) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to
pick up their first conference victory, ending a seven-set losing
streak after losing to St. Mary's and Mary
Washington, 3-0.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs (16-2, 1-1 CAC), who were without
the services of senior Alana Eller (Ellicott
City/Centennial) for the fifth consecutive game, fell
into a tie for fourth-place in the CAC with Wesley. The team
is looking to improve upon last year's sixth-place finish and 2-6
record.
In the absence of Eller, Stevenson was led in kills for the
fourth time in the last five matches by sophomore Alex
Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) who totaled a game-high 15.

percentage.
However, as a team, the Mustangs were limited by a .024 hitting
percentage as they totaled 32 kills, but committed 28 errors, 21 of
which were as a result of York's 21 total blocks, 20 of which were
assisted.
Stevenson added 15 total blocks of their own, highlighted by six
block assists from freshman Jen Glock
(Westminster/Westminster). Freshman Paige Norvell
(Newark, Del./St. Elizabeth) added three block assists in
addition to five kills and 10 digs.
Junior Danielle Helwig (Ellicott City/Howard)

Still battling a thumb injury, junior Brittany Umetin

assists.
Alishia Waltermyer led the Spartans with 12 kills and eight
