15th ranked Villa Julie (6-2) traveled to 12th ranked Lynchburg
(5-2). The Mustangs return home with a loss of 14-8. Villa took 38
shots and grabbed 30 groundballs to Lynchburg's 36 shots and
33 groundballs. Villa also won 12 of 25 face-offs.
The Lynchburg Hornets displayed their master of the field with two
even goals and one man-up goal in the first quarter, while the
Mustangs remained scoreless.
Lynchburg tallied two more goals in the second quarter before
Villa's Kevin Donnelly (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent
Pallotti) was assisted by Richie Ford
(Baltimore, MD/Towson) for the first Mustang goal at
the 6:01 mark. The Hornets earned another goal before the end of
the half to lead 6-1.
The Mustangs came into the second half prepared to close the gap.
After two Lynchburg goals, Greg Furshman (Miami,
FL/Towson) scored a goal assisted by
Ford with 9:45 remaining in the third quarter.
Lynchburg scored another before Furshman
capitalized on a man-up opportunity assisted by Steve
Kazimer (Syracuse, NY/Henniger). The third quarter closed
with the Hornets leading 10-3 after a Lynchburg goal.
Villa controlled the fourth quarter, tallying five goals to
Lynchburg's four. Lynchburg scored their first goal of the
quarter at 14:38. The Mustangs took over scoring with three
consecutive goals from 13:12 to 10:50 by Nicola Bevacqua
(Booton Township, NJ/Mt. Lakes), Ford,
and Kazimer. Lynchburg scored a man-up goal at
10:23 that was closely followed by an unassisted Ford at 10:02. The
Hornets maintained their lead by scoring twice more before
Drew Brady (Newton Square,
PA/Penncrest) ended the scoring at the :56 mark. The
game concluded with Lynchburg holding on to their #12 ranking as
they overtook the Mustangs 14-8.
Scorers for the Mustangs were Ford with two goals
and two assists, Furshman with two goals,
Kazimer with one goal and two assists, and
Bevacqua, Brady, and
Donnelly with one goal each.
The Mustangs look to redeem themselves when they travel to Wesley
College on March 29 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
