Owings Mills, MD - The Mustang Softball team celebrated the
opening of their new stadium at the Jewish Community Center but
they could not grab a win against conference rival Hood College.
It was a day of mixed emotions for the Mustang community. The
game was originally pushed back from 1pm to 3pm due to inclement
weather but that did not stop the festivities. President Kevin J.
Manning was on hand to cut the ribbon at the dedication
ceremony and officially open the new Mustang Stadium,
the Weinberg-Fine Stadium at the Irvin B. Levinson Baseball
Center.
The impressive facilities were the perfect surroundings for an
exciting and closely fought game 1 that went to extra innings.
The Mustangs went down 2-0 in the first inning but fought back
with a run in the 4th and 5th to tie the game. The teams would
stay level through seven and it required an
extra inning for the Blazers to pull out the 3-2 win.
Liz Penniman (Dayton, MD/Glenelg) and
Lindsey Mueller (Fallston, MD/Fallston) led
the Mustang offense, both going 3-4. In the second game
the Mustang offense could not get going, with Hood recording a 6-0
win.
The Mustangs (5-5, 0-2) will be back in action when they
face conference rival the University of Mary Washington
on Friday 21st March at home, starting at 2pm.
