Lancaster, PA - The VJC Men's Volleyball team traveled to
Lancaster Bible College in hopes of securing a place in the NECVA
West Tournament. The Mustangs proved successful in that quest,
winning both games.
The Mustangs came into Lancaster hoping for two wins but found
themselves down 2-0 in the first match against Northland Baptist of
Wisconsin. Anthony Cammarata (33 assists, 11
digs) came off the bench as the setter to lead VJC to the match win
with three straight wins in games 3, 4 and 5. JR
Jackson had another outstanding offensive performance with
28 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. He also pitched in
10 digs and 3 blocks. Defensively, the Mustangs posted their
greatest defensive effort this year with 87 digs and 19
blocks. Alex Ness (15 digs, 2 solo blocks, 8
assisted blocks), Ben Leatherman (15 digs), and
Steve Grossnickle (17 digs, 1 solo block, 8
assisted blocks) all had double digit digs.
In the second match, a scrappy Lancaster team frustrated the VJC
hitters for a good portion of the night. Defense again was
the story though as the Mustangs had 51 digs and 13 blocks.
David Lloyd led the offensive charge with 11
kills. Alex Ness had 10 kills to complement
his 3 digs and 7 blocks. Ben Leatherman led
he defense with 15 digs. Nick Rizzutti made
his presence known with 1 dig, 1 ace and 1 block.
John Hall was the setter during two of the games
and posted 3 kills, 20 assists and a very impressive 7 assisted
blocks. With the win, the Mustangs secure the sixth and final
position in the NECVA West tournament at EMU during the last
weekend of the month. A good performance in the EMU
tournament or the York Tourney next week could secure them a place
in the 16 team, NECVA championships in April.
