Washington, DC- The Mustangs (5-16, 3-9) traveled to face
Gallaudet Bison (6-15, 4-8). The Mustangs gave Gallaudet a
tough battle but fell short 79-73.
Villa Julie took the initial lead of the game with a lay-up by
Greg Collins (Baltimore,
MD/Western Tech). Gallaudet
answered and maintained the lead for the next 8 minutes of the
half. Freshman, Matt Leddy(Great Mills, MD/Great
Mills) sunk a crucial three-pointer, assisted by
Chaise Lancaster (Bowie, MD/Northwestern) to
regain the lead for the Mustangs. The Mustangs were ahead for
a short period until Gallaudet regained the lead off of a rebound
and three-point shot by Lance Gonzalez.
With 6:49 left in the half, the Mustangs went on a seven-point
run and regained the lead when Greg Woody (Baltimore,
MD/Mt. St. Joe) hit a three-pointer to make the score
30-29. Villa maintained the lead for the rest of the half and
were up 36-32 at halftime.
Gallaudet stormed into the second half and scored within seconds
to trail one point behind the Mustangs. Broderick Hill
(Largo, MD/Bishop
McNamara) notched a three-pointer to give the Mustangs
their last lead of the game at the 19-minute mark. The Bison
controlled the paint for the rest of the game giving the Mustangs a
struggle for a comeback.
With one minute left in the game, Lancaster
grabbed the ball from Gallaudet's Onye Davis and took it to the net
to put the Mustangs only one-point behind. The Bison defense
stepped-up their game and kept the Mustangs out of the net.
Gallaudet came out with the conference win, 79-73.
Leading the game in scoring was Gallaudet's Johhny Jackson with
20 points and 12 boards. Woody had the game
high in scoring for the Mustangs with 16 points and Jeremy
Bernard (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) led Villa's
rebounding efforts with 9.
