Philadelphia, PA - The Villa Julie Men's Volleyball team
traveled to Philadelphia for a tri-match contest with Bard College
and host Philadelphia Biblical College. The Mustangs went 1-1 on
the weekend.
The Mustangs started out with a tough game against
Philadelphia Biblical College. The Mustangs fought hard but could
not mangae to pull out the win losing 3-0 with scores of
30-24, 30-18, and 30-22. VJC had a great defensive effort
that featured 43 digs and 8 blocks. Hitting errors by VJC was the
story in the loss. The offense was led by JR
Jackson with 15 kills. Ryan McDowell is
starting to get back in the swing of things after surgery by
blocking 6 balls (5 assists and 1 solo).
In the Bard match, VJC posted a 4 game high 72 digs and 10 blocks
to take down the Raptors. JR Jackson had 29 kills,
4 blocks and 14 digs. Alex Ness had 10 kills and 3
blocks in addition to 10 digs. Steve Grossnickle
led the defensive charge with 14 digs. Grossnickle
and David LLoyd threw in 2 aces a piece as well to
beat Bard 3-1 (30-22, 30-17, 25-30, 31-29).
Ben Leatherman had an impressive 15 total digs for
both matches while only playing half-way around.
The Mustangs travel to Eastern Mennonite University on
Monday and will be looking to avenge the loss they
suffered last week. The Mustangs are currently 5-7 (1-2 NECVA
Western)
