Stevenson, MD-In a competitive home match against
the Eastern Mennonite Royals on Feb. 13, the Mustangs struggled to
volley their way to victory, falling in three games straight and
bringing their overall record to 4-6.
The Mustangs were tough challengers for their
opponents, landing the first kill of the night with a hard hit from
JR Howlett-Jackson (Havre de Grace, MD/ Havre de
Grace), but EMU managed to overpower the Mustangs, scoring
30 points each game and holding Villa Julie to 17 in game one and
19 in game two.
During the final game, the Mustangs made a strong
effort to keep the match going into a fourth, but the Royals edged
the men 30-25 to end the contest in a sweep.
Howlett-Jackson led the team with 11 kills,
while David Lloyd (Germantown, MD/ Calvert Hall)
put away another eight kills and aided the Mustangs' defense with a
total of six digs. Ben Leatherman (Glen Arm, MD/ Calvert
Hall) added another five digs for the team, while
Steve Grossnickle (Perry Hall, MD/ Calvert Hall)
totaled a team-high with two aces.
Men's volleyball will load the bus for their next
contest at Philadelphia Biblical University, as they take on Bard
College at on Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
