FROSTBURG, Md. - Sophomore Katelyn
Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep) scored her fourth goal
in the last three games which proved to be the game-winner as the
Stevenson University field hockey team tied a school record for
wins in a season with its ninth, 1-0 at Frostburg State Thursday
afternoon.
With their ninth win of the season, the Mustangs (9-9) won their
third game out of the last four and tied the 1997 and 2000 teams
who both went 9-11 to set the school record.
Manocheh's seventh goal of the season came with just 50 seconds
remaining in the first half and was assisted by Cat
Connelly (Fallston/Fallston). For Connelly, it was her
10th assist of the season, leaving her one short of the CAC lead
held by Allison Roush of York (Pa.).
Manocheh was able to score the game's only goal despite the
Bobcats (14-5) holding a 19-3 advantage in shots, including a 10-2
margin in the first half. Frostburg State also had an 11-4 edge in
penalty corners.
Sophomore Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) had 10 or more saves for
the fourth time this season, finishing with 12, one shy of her
season-high set against No. 11 William Smith and No. 10 Salisbury.
Stevenson will look to become the first team in school history
to post double digit wins in a season when it hosts Wesley at home
in the quarterfinals of the CAC Field Hockey Championship on
Sunday. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
