Stevenson, MD- Villa Julie men's volleyball took the Lancaster
Bible College Chargers 3-0 in the team's season home opener,
bringing the Mustangs' record to 3-3. The match marked the team's
first in the NECVA Western Division and the Chargers'
first loss of the season.
Quick hands and fast footwork led to Mustangs' undisputed
three-game victory, as they were led by outside hitters Dan
Phillips (Street, MD/ Harford Tech) and JR Howlett
Jackson (Havre de Grace, MD/ Havre de Grace). Phillips
racked up a total of 14 kills, two aces and three assists, while
Jackson tallied 12 kills for the night. Also adding to the
Mustangs' triumph were Alex Ness (Jarrettsville, MD/ North
Harford), David Lloyd (Germantown, MD/ Seneca
Valley) and Steve Grossnickle (Perry Hall, MD/
Calvert Hall), who all landed six kills apiece. The
Mustangs won 30-26, 30-25 and 30-24 to sweep the Chargers and claim
the win.
Villa Julie will hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 9 to compete in
the New Jersey City University Tournament at 9 a.m. Their opponent
is to be announced.
