Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.-
The Mustangs traveled to Bard College for a NEAC
tournament and came home with a .500 record as they won two and
lost two. VJC's 2-2 weekend takes their overall record to 5-11
and to 2-2 in the NEAC.
Match #4 versus D'youville College:
The Mustangs ended the tournament with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of
the Spartans. In the match JR Jackson hit
.300 versus ranked D'youville (11-5-20) and Brett
Keller tallied 14 kills to lead the offense.
Keller and Jackson also led the
defense with 11 digs, and 8 digs respectively. Freshman
David Lloyd had 3 blocks (2 solo and 1
assist).
Match #3 versus Polytechnic University:
Serving was the name of the game with aces by Joe
Tayge, JR Jackson, Brett
Keller, Steve Grosnickle and Zach
Canfield to lead VJC to a 3-0 (30-16, 30-21,
30-24) victory. Lloyd led the
way with 4 aces, including 3 aces in a row.
Tayge and Lloyd combined
for 37 assists. Zach Drew hit 10-1-14 for an
outstanding hitting percentage of .643 with help from
Keller (9-2-13) and Ryan McDowell
(9-1-15). David Lloyd led all blockers once
again with 2 solo blocks and 1 assist.
Match #2 versus host Bard College:
The Mustangs were downed by the Raptors 3-1 in the second match of
Day one 3-1 (30-26, 25-30, 30-23, 30-19). JR
Jackson and Zach Drew
led the offense with 19 kills and 11 kills respectively.
Joe Tagye had 41 assists in the match.
53 digs were tallied by VJC in an exciting 4 game match with
Steve Grossnickle and Alex Ness
leading the defense with 10 and 11 digs respectively.
Ryan Mcdowell led the Mustangs in blocks
with 3 solos and 4 assists.
Match #1 versus SUNY-Purchase:
Alex Ness and Steve Grossnickle
anchored a stingy defense with 11 digs each (56 digs overall)
as the Mustangs were victorious 3-0 (30-17, 30-18, 30-20).
The Mustangs are back in action this weekend as they travel to
Eastern Mennonite to play D'youville and Hilbert.
