Stevenson, Md.- In their second conference home game of the
season, the Mustangs (2-6, 1-3) faced former Villa Julie men's
basketball assistant coach Jeb Barber and the Gallaudet Bison (1-7,
1-3), looking to improve their record in the Capital Athletic
Conference.
The Mustangs got off to a slow start, as the Bison went on a 7-0
run. The Mustangs attempted to close the scoring gap by turning up
the intensity on defense. After a steal by starting guard
Chaise Lancaster (Bowie,
MD/Northwestern) and a three-pointer from Greg
Woody (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) to complete the fast
break, the Mustangs were down by four with just over five minutes
off the game clock.
In the second half, the Mustangs kept a steady pace, determined
to gain control of the scoreboard. But hard work from the Bison's
offense put the Mustangs behind 10 points at 53-43 midway through
the period.
Although the Mustangs continued to fight, the Bison held on to
their lead to finish the half and defeat the Mustangs 77-67.
Woody led the team's effort to win, scoring a
total of 25 points; Mike Turner
(Baltimore, MD/Polytechnic) added another 14; and
Greg Collins (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech.) added
12 points to the Mustangs' total score. Leading the team in
rebounds was Anatoly Smoklin (Baltimore,
MD/Pikesville) with a total of five.
For their next challenge, the Mustangs head to Towson University
to face Catholic at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16.
