Dover, DE- The Mustangs grabbed their second win of the
season at Wesley College tonight, breaking the Wolverine's
three-game win streak at their home opener. Junior
Chaise Lancaster
(Bowie,
MD/ Northwestern) made Mustang
history with 14 assists for the night.
Mike Turner (Baltimore, MD/ Polytechnic) hit a
layup within 20 seconds of the game to put Villa on the board first
but the Wolverines answered with an immediate three-pointer.
The Mustangs went on a scoring run and went up by as many as 8
points when Lancaster hit the net off a fast break
to put Villa up 14-6. The lead exchanged multiple times and
Wesley had the advantage 47-42 at the half.
As a unit, the Mustangs came out of the locker room on the top
of their game and dominated the floor. Wesley was also
playing their hardest and went up by as many as 10 points three
times over the Mustangs. Wesley saw their last lead at the 11
minute mark and Villa came out with the win 88-76 over the
Wolverines.
Turner led the Mustangs with 20 points,
Justin Miles
(Baltimore,
MD/ Frederick Douglas) totaled 16
points, and Lancaster scored 14 points and went
6-6 from the line. Anatoly Smolkin
(Baltimore,
MD/
Pikesville) led the team with 9
rebounds.
The Mustangs (2-5, 1-2 CAC) come home to play Gallaudet on
Saturday, December 8, at 4:00 pm. Gallaudet is now coached by
the Mustangs' alumni and ex-assistant coach Jeb Barber.
