Mustangs Take First CAC Loss

St. Mary's City, MD-

The Mustangs began Capital Athletic Conference competition tonight, contesting the St. Mary's Seahawks (5-1) on the road.

Both teams stepped onto the court eager to claim victory, but the Mustangs gained an early lead, leaving the Seahawks trailing by just a few points. After 10 minutes, the Seahawks were the leading team, and the Mustangs, who shot 70 percent from the free-throw line during the first half, were behind 47-36.

After halftime, the Mustangs returned from the locker room ready to get back in control of the game. The team proved they were worthy contenders as they slowly closed the gap between their score and that of the Seahawks, tying the game with 11.5 minutes left on the clock.

With a couple of consecutive three-pointers, the Seahawks were back in the winning position on the scoreboard. The Mustangs fought to regain the lead for the win but had to settle for a 90-79 loss as the Seahawks kept the game under control.

Greg Woody (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) led the Mustangs in scoring with 22 points; Chaise Lancaster (Bowie, MD/Northwestern) finished with 15, and Justin Miles (Baltimore, MD/Frederick Douglas) added 12 points. Ely Richardson (Hartford, CT/Suffield Academy), Anatoly Smoklin (Baltimore, MD/Pikesville), Mike Turner (Baltimore, MD/Polytechnic) and Miles shared in leading the team in rebounding with six each.

The Mustangs return to the court when they host CAC opponent York College on Saturday, December 1st.
