The Mustangs began Capital Athletic Conference competition
tonight, contesting the St. Mary's Seahawks (5-1) on the
road.
Both teams stepped onto the court eager to claim victory, but the
Mustangs gained an early lead, leaving the Seahawks trailing by
just a few points. After 10 minutes, the Seahawks were the leading
team, and the Mustangs, who shot 70 percent from the free-throw
line during the first half, were behind 47-36.
After halftime, the Mustangs returned from the locker room ready to
get back in control of the game. The team proved they were worthy
contenders as they slowly closed the gap between their score and
that of the Seahawks, tying the game with 11.5 minutes left on the
clock.
With a couple of consecutive three-pointers, the Seahawks were back
in the winning position on the scoreboard. The Mustangs fought to
regain the lead for the win but had to settle for a 90-79 loss as
the Seahawks kept the game under control.
Greg Woody (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) led the
Mustangs in scoring with 22 points; Chaise Lancaster
(Bowie, MD/Northwestern) finished with 15, and
Justin Miles (Baltimore, MD/Frederick Douglas)
added 12 points. Ely Richardson (Hartford, CT/Suffield
Academy), Anatoly Smoklin (Baltimore,
MD/Pikesville), Mike Turner (Baltimore, MD/Polytechnic)
and Miles shared in leading the team in rebounding
with six each.
The Mustangs return to the court when they host CAC opponent York
College on Saturday, December 1st.
