Westminster, MD- On Nov. 20, Villa Julie and McDaniel went head
to head in the first round of the 2007 Provident Pride of Maryland
Tournament.
Both teams came out running in attempts to advance to the
tournament semi-finals, but McDaniel showed its enthusiasm early,
gaining a 14-point lead in the first 10 minutes.
After a slow beginning, starting point guard Greg Woody
(Baltimore, MD /Mt. St. Joseph) and sophomore guard
Mike Turner (Baltimore, MD/Polytechnic) helped the
Mustangs pick up the tempo on both offense and defense. By the end
of the first half, the scoring gap had disappeared and both teams
tied at 30.
Excited Terror fans cheered as the two teams battled to control
the scoreboard during the final half. But the terror slowly pulled
away from the Mustangs, pushing its lead up to 11 points with 8
minutes left on the clock.
The Mustangs fought hard, but continued to unsuccessfully play
catch-up for the duration of the period. Woody led
the Mustangs with 24 points, while Turner added 16
to the scoreboard. Ely Richardson (Hartford, CT/Suffield
Academy) led the team with 7 rebounds.
With the 84-61 loss, the Mustangs go on to play Goucher College
at 1:30 p.m. at Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
