OWINGS MILLS, MD - On Senior Day, the Mustangs fell to a strong
offensive performance from Frostburg State
University. Frostburg went ahead early in the game
and never looked back, winning 5-1. A combination between two
freshmen led to the Mustangs lone goal. The goal was scored
by Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore, MD/Perry
Hall) off an assist from Katelyn Manocheh
(Baldwin, MD/Maryvale).
Before the game, Coach Railey honored the 3 graduating
seniors for their accomplishments and dedication to
Mustang field hockey.
#4 - Becky Spadaccini came to us from
Felton, DE and Polytech. Becky played 4 years of field hockey
at VJC, starting 9 games and playing 36 games in her career. Becky
scored her 1st career goal a few weeks ago against nationally
ranked Lebanon Valley College. Becky is also currently ranked 5th
in shot % for the 2007 season. According to Coach Railey, Becky is
a hard worker in every aspect of her life, as a great student, a
great teammate and a wonderful leader.
#22 - Cat Connelly came to us from Fallston, MD
and Fallston High School. Cat played three seasons as a starter for
the Mustangs and is valued as one of the Capital Athletic
Conference's top midfielders. Cat was named honorable mention CAC
player of the week in mid-September and leads the team in
minutes played for the 2007 season. So
far in 2007, she has 2 goals and 1 assist and is ranked
3rd in shots. Coach Railey describes Cat as one of the
most technically sound field hockey players she has ever
worked with and a joy to coach.
#8 - Jamie Jones came to us from Glen Burnie,
MD and Glen Burnie High School. Jamie did not play until this
season but has made a strong impact on the team. Jamie is a very
versatile player who has played every position from forward line to
defensive back. Jamie has been in 11 games this season. According
to Coach Railey, Jamie is a wonderful person and player with
well-rounded skills. A player that never seems to tire, and adds
fire to every drill and game.
The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday 24th October
when they travel to face non-conference opponent and local rival
Goucher College. The game is scheduled for a 4pm start. The
Mustangs next home game will be in the
CAC tournament when they host the University of Mary
Washington at Owings Mills on Sunday 28th October.
