The Mustangs had a road trip to take on the SUNY-Purchase
Panthers. They came out aggressive in the first half, took
the lead, and trampled over the Panthers 81-67.
Cilk McSweeney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard)
hit back-to-back three-pointers followed by Phil
Williams (District Heights, MD/ Bishop McNamara) who sunk
a three-pointer to open the game 14-6 at 16:24. From there
on, the Mustangs controlled the court. They ended the half
ahead 43-25.
At the beginning of the second half, Kerry Dugan
(Sparks, MD/ Hereford) grabbed a rebound and made a layup while
being fully covered by the Panthers. The Mustangs kept the
ball running and at 7:36 Elysian Richardson
(Hartford, CT/ Suffield Academy) dunked the ball to seal the
deal.
McSweeney led the team with 18 points,
Steve Segears (Lanham, MD/ St. Johns College HS)
had 15 points, Chaise Lancaster (Bowie, MD/
Northwestern) added 12 points, and Jason Lambert
(Bloomfield, CT/ Kingswood-Oxford) put up 10 points.
With the win, the Mustangs' record climbs to 8-7 overall and 5-2
in the NEAC. Next up for Villa is Philadelphia Biblical at
home on Tuesday, January 23, at 8:00 pm.
