Aly Erickson scored the game-winning goal for FSU (4-8) with
just 45 seconds left in overtime to beat Villa Julie
(3-8) 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at Frostburg State
University.
Villa Julie got their first goal of the game from freshman
Rachel Manly (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) just 11:17
into the contest. Manley's goal was unassisted and
came off a penalty corner. The goal was
Manley's second goal of the year.
FSU tied the match one minute later when Brittany Russell scored
an unassisted goal.
The two teams would go into halftime with the game all tied at
one.
The Bobcats scored their second goal in the 63rd minute when
Carly Cross put the ball in the back of the net.
Cross's goal looked to be the game winner but with just under
one minute left to play in regulation, the Mustangs'
Michelle Muir (Princess Anne, MD/Washington)
netted the equalizer with just 59 seconds left. Muir's goal tied
the game at 2-2 and sent the game into overtime. The goal was
Muir's first of her career.
In overtime both teams battled with great intensity and play was
going back and forth. Erickson then scored the game
winner with only :45 seconds left to lift Frostburg State to the
3-2 victory.
Junior goalie Kaitlin Brzozowski (Bel Air,
Fallston) was credited with fifteen saves in the losing effort.
VJC returns to the field on October 6 when they travel to
the College of Notre Dame. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00
pm.
