George Coles enters his first season with the Mustangs, for the 2026 season.
Prior to joining Stevenson, Coles most recently served as the Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Recruiting Coordinator at the Catholic University of America beginning in March 2025. In that role, he oversaw all aspects of the program’s offensive strategy, including game planning, practice organization, and player development. He also played a key role in recruiting and retaining student-athletes, while supporting administrative operations, alumni engagement, and fundraising efforts. During his tenure, Coles helped develop All-Landmark Conference performers along the offensive line and at running back.
Coles’ time at Catholic University followed a stint as the offensive line coach, where he contributed to a Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year honor and mentored an All-Landmark Second Team selection. His responsibilities included opponent scouting, film breakdown, practice planning, and academic support programming, while also assisting with recruiting operations and social media content creation.
Before his time at Catholic, Coles coached at Wilkes University during the 2023-24 season, working with running backs, tight ends, and the offensive line. While at Wilkes, he coached an All-Landmark First Team running back and the conference’s Rookie of the Year. He was heavily involved in game planning, recruiting across multiple regions, special teams development, and organizing team and community engagement initiatives.
Coles began his coaching career at the high school level in North Carolina. He served as the offensive line and tight ends coach at Hoke County High School from 2020 to 2023, where he helped develop position groups, assisted in play-calling, and emphasized academic success among his players. He also gained head coaching experience at West Hoke Middle School in 2019, where he managed all aspects of the program, including practice planning, game strategy, and player development across multiple positions.
A native of Virginia, Coles earned his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with minors in education, psychology, and sociology from Ferrum College in 2019. His educational background supports his holistic approach to coaching, emphasizing both athletic performance and personal growth.
Coles’ coaching philosophy centers on discipline, preparation, and building strong relationships with his players.Â
