Trumbo joined the Mustangs' staff in 2022, after serving as the head varsity volleyball coach at Century High School from 2013-2021. In 2019, he was named Carroll County Coach of the Year with his team winning the 2A State Championship in Maryland. His overall record for coaching in high school was 99-30.

Trumbo is a Towson alum, who received his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 2009. He was the commencement speaker for the College of Health Professionals and received the award for Towson University's Most Outstanding Senior in Physical
Education/Teacher Education in 2009. While at Towson, Trumbo played three years for the Towson University Men's Club Volleyball Team.

Trumbo received his Master’s degree from McDaniel College in Exercise Science and Physical Education. He is in his 16th year as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher at Hebbville Elementary School.

Trumbo assisted his father Dave Trumbo, the former Mustangs coach, in his last two seasons at Stevenson with the indoor and beach team. In 2022, he helped the women’s beach team win the first ever AVCA Small College National Championship.
