Dave Trumbo



Dave Trumbo is entering his 16th season as the head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Stevenson University.

In 16 seasons under Trumbo's guidance, Stevenson's indoor women's volleyball program has totaled 442 wins, 21 All-Americans, 47 All-Conference selections, five Player of the Year selections, three Rookie of the Year selections, 12 postseason appearances, including 12 straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship from 2011-22 (there was no tournament during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak).

Trumbo concluded his coaching career with the Mustangs slotting a 442-119 record with a .781 win percentage at the realm. 
 
In 2017, the Mustangs finished with 33 wins, while just losing two matches. The Mustangs advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, defeating Hunter by a 3-0. This marked the first time that Stevenson had hosted the regional. Stevenson was ranked No. 23 nationally in the final AVCA poll after climbing as high as No. 15 during the season. Senior Annika Schwartz became the program's first-ever AVCA First Team All-American.

In 2013, Stevenson set the school record with 37 wins advancing to the NCAA Regional Final, before falling to Juniata. The Mustangs finished 19th that season in the AVCA Poll, the highest finish in the poll in school history.

Prior to Stevenson, Trumbo coached the girls' volleyball program at Liberty High School in Sykesville. During his tenure, Trumbo led the Lions to Class 2A state titles in 2003 and 2004, as well as nine-county championships and six regional titles in 11 seasons.

Trumbo totaled a 167-31 career record, including a metro-area record 49-match winning streak, and was named Metro Coach of the Year in 2003. He was also a five-time Carroll County Coach of the Year in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 and coached seven players who were named Carroll County Player of the Year and one Metro Player of the Year.

The founder of the "Spike It!" Volleyball Camp, Trumbo also coached girls basketball at Liberty, leading the Lions to county championships in 1998 and 1999.

Off the court, Trumbo has worked for WTTR radio as a color analyst for McDaniel basketball games and the Carroll County High School Basketball Game of the Week. He has also served as a color analyst at Adelphia Cable Television for the Carroll County High School Basketball and Lacrosse Game of the Week and prepares and edits segments of a quarterly publication that reaches 50,00 subscribers.

Trumbo received a bachelor of science degree in physical education from Towson and a master of science in recreation administration and supervision from Morgan State. While at Towson, he participated in both soccer and baseball.

Trumbo's wife, Fran, is a college field hockey and women's lacrosse official and the couple has three children, Michael, Becky, and Bryan. Michael is a Stevenson graduate who ran cross country for the Mustangs.

Becky was an All-American lacrosse player at Towson and is currently the head girls' lacrosse coach at Century while Bryan also graduated from Towson and boasted a 4.0-grade point average. He was the commencement speaker for the College of Health Professionals and received the award for Towson University's Most Outstanding Senior in Physical Education/Teacher Education in 2009.
