Jeff Smith enters his fourth season in charge of the Women’s Golf team and second season with the Men’s Golf team for the 2026/27 season.
Following his successful coaching through the first two years with the Women’s team, Smith was named Head Coach for the Men’s Golf team entering the 2025/26 season. His third season with the women started exceptionally. The team won the first invite of the season. Across the six competitions in the fall season, Smith’s side had six top-five individual results to couple with the six top-five team results his side earned. The Spring season carried the same success as the team recorded three top-five finishes in five events, including a team victory at the Stevenson Spring Invitational. At the MAC Championships, Smith coached the side to finish second, the team’s best finish with Smith in charge, and had a golfer named to the All-MAC Second Team. He ended the season boasting a team regional rank of 16 and earning four MAC Golfer of the Week honors.
Smith saw his first season in charge of the Men’s Team with a second-place result at the MAC Commonwealth Championships. In the 11 competitions the team played, Smith’s side earned nine top-five results. Two of his golfers were named MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Week in the first year of his tenure. At the conference championships, the Men’s program saw its second individual championship title in three years, as well as earning MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Year. The success from Smith’s first year with the Men’s team was highlighted by earning MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year. The team ended the season under the leadership of Smith, ranked 12th regionally.
Smith’s second season in charge of the Women’s program saw a tremendous uptake from his first year. The team participated in 17 rounds across 11 events, recording three top-three team results and finishing in the top 10 in all 11 competitions. During the Pride of Maryland Spring Invitational, Stevenson finished as runners-up as a team, but had a golfer named the individual champion, the lone individual title of the season. Following a strong performance at the McDaniel Spring Invitational, Smith saw his first MAC Golfer of the Week award given to his team. At the MAC Championships, Smith led a first-year golfer to be named on the All-MAC Second Team after finishing tenth. This was his first All-MAC Team honor earned as a head coach. He also had two first-year golfers named as WGCA All-American Scholars.
The 2023/24 season marked Smith’s transition from assistant coach to head coach for the Women’s Golf team. In his first season in charge, the program participated in eight rounds across seven competitions. His coaching led to an individual top-20 finish during the MAC Championships and an individual champion at the Stevenson Fall Invitational, highlighting the season.
Prior to being named Head Coach for the Women’s Golf program, he served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's golf teams from 2014 through 2023. During his nine-year tenure as an assistant, Stevenson’s golf programs have won a total of eight MAC Conference championships, three with the Women’s team and five with the Men’s Team, totaling eight appearances in the NCAA tournament. A great number of individual players have experienced success under Smith, as his student-athletes have earned five All-Region selections, five MAC Golfers of the Year, 41 All-MAC selections, 22 MAC Academic All-Conference award winners, and 22 Academic All-Americans.
In addition, he has worked with a recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award, and the women’s program has been ranked in the Top 20 nationally in highest team GPA three times. Smith was also instrumental in the formation and development of the women's program, being involved with all trips to the NCAA tournament in the program's history.
Smith was a collegiate golfer at nearby McDaniel College. He fired a career low round of 68, which stood as the Centennial Conference record for the lowest individual score for several years. He is a graduate of McDaniel, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2012 and his master’s degree in 2014.
