Matt Righter enters his third season as the head baseball coach at Stevenson University in 2026 as the Mustang baseball program continues to make significant strides forward. Entering year three, the program has benefited from strong recruiting efforts, highlighted by the addition of 14 talented freshmen who have added depth, energy, and competition to the roster.

Righter completed his first two seasons at Stevenson after arriving from Vassar College, where he served as head coach from 2016-23. During his tenure with the Brewers, Righter transformed the program into a consistent Liberty League contender. His 2023 squad set a program record with 20 wins and ranked among the top Division III programs nationally in batting average (.337), on-base percentage (.895), and stolen bases (85).

Under Righter’s leadership, Vassar advanced to the Liberty League postseason three times while producing 114 All-Liberty League Academic selections, 22 all-conference honorees, and three All-Region selections.

Prior to his time at Vassar, Righter served as the head coach at SUNY New Paltz from 2013-16. In 2016, he guided the Hawks to a 20-win season, nearly tripling the team’s win total from the previous year, while also securing the program’s first-ever conference series victory over nationally top-ranked Cortland State.

A standout two-sport student-athlete at Johns Hopkins University, Righter earned all-conference honors in both baseball and basketball. Following his collegiate career, he was selected in the 21st round of the MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigersand went on to play six seasons professionally, reaching the Triple-A level with the Toledo Mud Hens.

Righter is also familiar with the Baltimore area through his previous coaching experience at Johns Hopkins, where he served as an assistant coach for both the baseball and men’s basketball programs. During his time with the Blue Jays baseball program, Johns Hopkins captured four Centennial Conference championships and advanced to the College World Series in 2010. Additionally, three of his pitchers went on to play professionally.

A 2004 graduate of Johns Hopkins with a degree in International Relations, Righter continues to build the Stevenson baseball program around a foundation of player development, strong culture, and character.
