OWINGS MILLS, MD. – The Stevenson football team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion Friday night, cruising to a 17-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater (Va.) at Mustang Stadium. The shutout marked the Mustangs' first since 2023, when Stevenson blanked Albright, while also giving head coach
Josh Hoeg his first career victory at the helm of the Mustangs. Stevenson improves to 1-0 on the season with the victory.
Stevenson wasted little time finding the end zone. After the Mustang defense forced Bridgewater to turn the ball over on downs inside the Stevenson five-yard line, the offense marched 95 yards on a 12-play drive that consumed 6:53 off the clock. Senior quarterback
Todd Lattimore connected with
Khari Walker for a 19-yard touchdown with just eight seconds remaining in the opening quarter, giving the Mustangs a 7–0 advantage.
The Mustang defense continued to make life difficult for the Eagles throughout the first half. Stevenson held Bridgewater to just 33 yards of total offense in the opening quarter and added a key turnover early in the second, as
Ethan Marshall sacked Parker Burke and forced a fumble that was recovered by
Samuel Jean Baptiste at the Mustang 20-yard line. Bridgewater managed just 55 yards of offense in the second quarter as Stevenson carried its 7–0 lead into halftime.
Stevenson added to its advantage in the third quarter. After the Mustangs recovered a muffed Bridgewater punt at the Eagles' 17-yard line,
Mohammad Butt calmly converted a 28-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10–0 with 6:51 remaining in the quarter. The Mustang defense continued to dominate, recording five sacks on the night and limiting Bridgewater to just 24 rushing yards for the game.
The Mustangs put the game away early in the fourth quarter. Following another Bridgewater fumble, Stevenson took over at the Eagles' 12-yard line and needed just four plays to reach the end zone.
Guiliano Scavetta capped the short drive with a three-yard touchdown run, while Butt added the extra point to push the Mustang lead to 17–0.
Scavetta led the Stevenson rushing attack with 73 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while
Christian Russo added 58 yards on 14 attempts. Lattimore completed 12 of 27 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown, with Walker leading the receiving corps with five catches for 79 yards and a score.
Ryan McClain added three receptions for 56 yards.
Defensively,
Ethan Marshall led all Mustangs with nine tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss, while
Terae Franklin,
Brandon Adler,
Ibrahim Dail and
Xavier McKinney each recorded a sack. Stevenson finished the night with five sacks and nine tackles for loss while recovering three Bridgewater fumbles.
The Mustangs controlled possession throughout the night, holding the ball for 33:50 compared to Bridgewater's 26:10. Stevenson also held a significant advantage in first downs, 19–9, and converted 6-of-14 third-down opportunities.
With the victory, Stevenson opens the season at 1–0 and will now turn its attention to its first MAC match up of the season. The Mustangs will hit the road on Friday, September 11, traveling to King's (Pa.) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
