DELAWARE, Ohio – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (7-9 overall, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) dropped a 14-12 decision to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
Max Racich opened the scoring at the 13:58 mark of the first quarter, but the Bishops answered just 24 seconds later with a fast-break goal. Racich struck again, and Darrell Curtis followed with a tally to give Stevenson a 3-1 advantage. Ohio Wesleyan responded with two goals to even the score, but Hunter Bryant found the back of the net at 1:28 to put the Mustangs ahead 4-3 after one.
The Bishops seized momentum in the second quarter with three straight goals. John Martin Vince ended the run at the 4:57 mark, though Ohio Wesleyan quickly countered. The teams traded goals down the stretch, with Brennan McKneely, Curtis, and Bryant contributing for Stevenson. The game was knotted at 8-8 heading into halftime.
Stevenson opened the second half with a three-goal surge fueled by Gavin Gossen, Racich, and McKneely. Ohio Wesleyan answered with two goals, but Gossen struck again at 1:03 in the third quarter to give the Mustangs a 12-10 lead entering the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Bishops scored four unanswered goals to pull ahead and secure the 14-12 victory.
Racich led Stevenson with a six-point outing, as Gossen tallied three. Bryant, Curtis, and McKneely each contributed two points on the afternoon. In net, Tyler Merchant made 14 saves and picked up four ground balls.
The Mustangs will now turn their attention to the MAC Commonwealth tournament. The team has clinched the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 Messiah on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
