Softball Celebrates Senior Day with Doubleheader Sweep Over Albright

Owings Mills, MD (April 18) – On Senior Day, the Stevenson softball team delivered a memorable performance, sweeping Albright in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader. Stevenson opened the day with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in game one before erupting offensively for a 10-2 win in game two, honoring its seniors with a complete team effort.

Game 1:
The Mustangs fell behind early after Albright pushed across a run in the second inning, but Stevenson answered in the third with the decisive moment of the game. Olivia Munoz sparked the rally by reaching base, followed by a single from Maria Morsa to put runners in scoring position. Rebecca Maiorano then delivered the key hit, driving a two-RBI single to right field to give the Mustangs a 2–1 lead and eventual win.

Stevenson's offense produced eight hits in the contest, highlighted by a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Morsa. Munoz, Sierra Williams, Tessa Boswell, and Mykaela Getz each added hits as the Mustangs consistently applied pressure throughout the game.

In the circle, Anna Sexton (7-6) was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run. She scattered eight hits, did not issue a walk, and worked out of multiple jams to keep the Lions off the board after the second inning.

The Mustangs' defense was equally sharp, playing error-free softball and making key plays late to preserve the one-run advantage.

Game 2:
After a quiet opening frame, Stevenson found its rhythm in the second inning. Following Albright's early 1-0 lead, the Mustangs quickly responded as Munoz worked an RBI walk to even the score before Sahara Ward followed with an RBI single to give Stevenson a 2-1 advantage.

Albright briefly tied the game at 2-2 in the third, but Stevenson answered immediately. Boswell grounded out to bring home a run, reclaiming the lead at 3-2 and setting the stage for a decisive middle inning surge.

The Mustangs broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating five runs on a combination of timely hitting and defensive miscues. Maiorano reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, while Williams highlighted the inning with an RBI double. Emily Hamp and Getz each added RBI singles as Stevenson extended its lead to 8-2.

Stevenson continued to add insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Williams delivered again with an RBI single, and Munoz capped the scoring with an RBI triple to center field, sealing the 10-2 victory.

Offensively, the Mustangs tallied 17 hits, led by Williams' perfect 3-for-3 performance with two RBI and a walk. Ava Stafursky also recorded three hits, while Maiorano scored three runs, and multiple players contributed multi-hit efforts in the balanced attack.

In the circle, Ky Vaughn (3-3) earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out two across six innings.

The Mustangs will return to action on Tuesday, April 21, when they host Susquehann at 3pm and 5pm for their next non-conference doubleheader.
