READING, Pa. — The Stevenson University baseball team earned an 8–5 victory over Alvernia on Friday afternoon.
Stevenson opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Landon Richard delivered an RBI single to bring home Shaun Rudick. Alvernia quickly responded with a solo home run in the bottom half and added two more runs in the fifth to take a 3–1 lead.
The Mustangs answered in the sixth inning with a four-run rally, capitalizing on multiple defensive errors to take a 5–3 advantage. Alvernia chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 5–5.
Stevenson regained control in the eighth inning as John Noll provided a go-ahead RBI single, followed by a run-scoring double from Kaige Garrity to extend the lead to 7–5. The Mustangs added an insurance run in the ninth on another Alvernia error.
On the mound, Chris Fortunato started and allowed three runs over five innings. Jake Treasure earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game.
Offensively, Richard led the Mustangs with two hits and two runs scored, while Garrity and Noll each drove in key late runs. Stevenson drew eight walks and took advantage of five Alvernia errors in the victory.
The Mustangs return to action tomorrow when they will host Alvernia for a double header. First pitches are scheduled for noon and 3:00 p.m.
