Baseball drops doubleheader to Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. — Stevenson baseball dropped game one of its doubleheader at Messiah, 25–3, on Sunday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action and fell 9–2 in the second game.

Game 1

The Mustangs (6-6, 0-5) briefly cut into an early deficit in the third inning, as Kaige Garrity and Ben Vaughan reached base before Zach Mayza delivered a two-RBI single to make it 3–2.

Messiah responded with an eight-run third inning and continued to add on, pulling away over the next frames.

Connor Mullaney doubled and later scored in the sixth on an RBI from Michael McGarry, accounting for Stevenson's final run. Mayza led the offense with two RBIs as the Mustangs totaled seven hits.

Sommers Turner (1-1) was charged with the loss as Stevenson used multiple arms on the mound.

Game 2 

The Mustangs collected seven hits but were unable to overcome an early deficit, as Messiah scored two runs in the second and added six more in the third inning to take control.

Cole Reich provided a hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. The Mustangs added another run in the seventh, when John Noll came around to score on a passed ball.

Reich led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Jaylon Surell and Mayza also recorded hits in the effort.

Will Heyse (2-2) took the loss on the mound, while Jake Treasure provided solid relief, tossing 3.2 innings and allowing just one run.

The Mustangs return to action when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a 3:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
