Saint Davids, Pa. (February 7) – The Stevenson women's basketball team shook off a slow start and delivered a resilient, play-by-play comeback effort Saturday afternoon, outlasting Eastern in overtime for a 64–61 MAC Commonwealth road victory.
Eastern controlled the opening minutes, jumping out to an early run while Stevenson struggled to find rhythm offensively. The Mustangs managed just one field goal in the first quarter, as the Eagles built a 13–2 lead after 10 minutes.
The second quarter told a different story.
Destiny Towns got Stevenson on the board at the line to spark momentum, and
Anaya Price followed with an aggressive attack in the paint. Moments later, Price buried a three-pointer from the wing, trimming the deficit to single digits.
Isabella Serano added a layup inside, and
Nadia Ferguson converted in transition off a steal to keep the pressure on. Price caught fire late in the half, knocking down another triple off a turnover to briefly give the Mustangs their first lead. Stevenson poured in 23 second-quarter points, shooting over 60 percent from the floor in the period, and went into halftime within striking distance, 29–25.
Out of the break, the Mustangs continued to chip away.
Kalea Wynter opened the third with a turnaround jumper, and Towns battled on the glass for a second-chance bucket. Ferguson added key interior finishes as Stevenson matched Eastern possession for possession. The teams traded scores throughout the quarter, setting up a tight finish.
In the fourth, Price again took command. The senior guard connected from deep and attacked downhill, while Ferguson cleaned up inside to keep the Mustangs level. With both defenses tightening late, free throws and rebounds proved crucial. Wynter controlled the boards and facilitated the offense, helping Stevenson force overtime tied at 53–53.
In the extra session, the Mustangs delivered their best stretch of the day.
Price opened overtime with a confident jumper, Ferguson added a strong finish at the rim, and Serano converted at the line. Stevenson shot efficiently and limited Eastern to one possession at a time, while Wynter and Towns secured key rebounds to protect the lead. Clutch free throws in the final seconds sealed the comeback as the Mustangs closed out the 64–61 victory.
Stevenson (9–12, 6–4 MAC Commonwealth) returns to action Wednesday, February 11, traveling to York (Pa.) for a 6:00 p.m. conference match up.
