Arlington, Va. (February 3) — The Stevenson men's volleyball team battled on the road Tuesday night in a rematch with Marymount, but the Saints evened the season series at 1-1 with a three-set victory over the Mustangs. Stevenson fell by set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.
Set 1
The match opened with both sides trading points early, as the first few rallies set an even tone. Marymount used the home-court energy to string together a mid-set surge, turning a tight score into a 14-9 advantage. Stevenson continued to fight, highlighted by kills from
Tanner Laukhuff and
Corwin Trouteaud, but the Saints maintained control and closed the frame, 25-18.
Set 2
The Mustangs responded with a stronger rhythm in the second set, keeping pace with Marymount throughout. A quick 5-1 run helped Stevenson stay within striking distance, trimming the score to 15-13. The back-and-forth action continued late, and a kill from
Jackson Bones knotted the set at 20-20. Marymount capitalized down the stretch with a late push to secure the set, 25-21.
Set 3
Stevenson carried its momentum into the third, matching the Saints point-for-point in the early going.
Adam DeRubertis delivered a service ace to even the score at 10-10, keeping the Mustangs within reach. Marymount, however, regained control with another run and sustained the pressure to finish off the match with a 25-18 win.
Stevenson returns to action at home on Thursday, February 5, when the Mustangs welcome Elizabethtown for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
