COLUMBIA, Md. – The Stevenson University baseball team swept Penn State Hazleton, 8-7 and 4-3 on Saturday evening at Blandair Park.
Game 1
Stevenson opened game one of the doubleheader with a 8-7 comeback victory over the Lions, where
Cole Reich had the walk off hit in the bottom of the eighth.
Penn State got on the board first with three early runs coming in the top of the first. The Mustangs cut into their deficit when
Landen Eyster singled to center field scoring Jaylon Surrell. Stevenson had three runners score in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 coming from a single from
Cole Reich, a RBI from
Caleb Laverty, and a single from Surrell.
The Lions homered to left field and added two more runs to open the fourth inning, regaining their lead.
Ben Vaughan hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score
John Padousis. Surrell had a solo home run over the left field fence to put the team ahead by one.
Penn State tied the game in the top of the sixth and shut the Mustangs out till the bottom of the eighth when
Zach Mayza tripled to right center which set Reich up for the walk off single to left field.
Ari Lonstein gains the win for the Mustangs where he threw 2.2 innings, faced 10 batters and struck out six of them.
Game 2
Stevenson finished the sweep with a 4-3 win over the Lions.
The Mustangs opened the scoring of game two when
John Noll led off the inning hitting a triple to left center, and
Shaun Rudick followed that up with a double of his own, scoring Noll.
The Lions tied the game at one in the top of the second, but Stevenson regained its lead quickly when Rudick singled to right field crossing Richard. The lions applied heavy pressure in the third but didn't break through. Penn State took the 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth.
Reich opened the bottom of the fifth with a double to left center, who then scored on an error by the Lions. Noll notched another RBI scoring Richard, regaining a 4-3 lead, heading into the sixth.
Stevenson closed the door in the seventh, with
Chris Fortunato collecting the win.
Stevenson is scheduled to host Lancaster Bible College at 2 p.m. on Owings Mills East Campus.
