Owings Mills, Md. (February 21) – In a Senior Day battle inside Owings Mills Gymnasium, the Stevenson Mustangs delivered back-and-forth performance against MAC Commonwealth foe Widener, ultimately falling just short in a 66–63 contest.
The Mustangs opened the afternoon with energy, as
Janiya Ennis attacked the paint for the game's first points. Moments later,
Anaya Price buried a three-pointer off an Ennis assist to give Stevenson an early 5–0 advantage. The Pride responded, but Stevenson continued to apply pressure. Price converted a fast-break three following a steal to push the lead to five midway through the first quarter.
Widener answered late in the period to take a brief advantage, but the Mustangs closed strong.
Janie Smith converted inside, and
Nadia Ferguson knocked down two free throws in the final seconds to send the game tied at 18–18 after one.
The second quarter featured five lead changes, highlighting the competitive nature of the contest.
Destiny Towns gave Stevenson a spark off the bench with a hook shot in the paint, while Ferguson finished through contact on a driving layup to extend the Mustang lead.
Sanaa Thorne added a key basket inside during a 5–0 Stevenson run, pushing the Mustangs ahead by six with just over four minutes remaining in the half.
Price continued to lead the charge, attacking the rim and knocking down mid-range jumpers to keep Stevenson in front. However, Widener capitalized at the free-throw line in the closing seconds, narrowly edging ahead 32–31 at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Stevenson wasted no time reclaiming momentum. Price opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to tie the game at 34–34. The Mustangs' defense intensified, forcing contested shots and controlling the glass. Price converted a pair of free throws to even the score again, and the back-and-forth continued throughout the period.
With strong defensive rebounds from
Tessa Boswell and timely contributions in the paint, Stevenson outscored Widener 17–13 in the third quarter, taking a 48–45 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter saw both teams trade baskets in a high-pressure finish. Ennis attacked downhill and drew contact, while Ferguson continued to battle inside. Widener managed to regain the lead midway through the period, but Stevenson refused to back down. Price kept the Mustangs within striking distance with tough finishes and clutch free throws.
In the final minutes, Stevenson had opportunities to tie or take the lead, but Widener converted key possessions down the stretch to secure the narrow 66–63 decision.
Stevenson ended the season 10–15 overall and 7-7 in the MAC Commonwealth, being edged out of the final seed in the conference championship tournament.
