Stevenson Challenge in Three Finals at Day 1 of MAC Championships

YORK, Pa. - Brendan Lach broke the 500-yard Freestyle program record twice and secured 10th during day one of the MAC Championships.

The 2026 MAC Championships kicked off with the 500-yard Freestyle. 37 athletes qualified, including four Mustangs: Lach, Aiden Dill, Alexander Kaye, and Tydus Coogan. In the morning preliminary session, Lach was the only swimmer to qualify for the final in the evening session, setting a personal best and breaking the Program record. His time of 4:57.09 in the 500 free is the third program record he has set this season. Kaye and Coogan joined Lach in setting personal bests as well, with Kaye swimming a 5:18.65 and Coogan a 5:32.80. 

Lach went back to the pool to break his own program record set earlier in the morning. He swam a 4:56.30 and secured 10th place for Stevenson in the first final of the championships.

Three Stevenson swimmers competed in the second event of the morning, the 200-yard Individual Medley. Through three heats, 24 athletes took to the blocks with all three Mustangs, William Lebron, Jack Mark, and Skyler Coburn, qualifying for the final. Mark swam a time of 2:15.69, setting a new personal best.

For the final of the 200IM, Lebron swam in Heat B and was six hundredths of a second from setting a new personal best. His time of 2:03.98 secured him 12th place. Coburn and Mark swam in Heat C and grabbed a 21st and 19th finish. Both athletes also swam personal bests. Coburn swam a 2:15.11, and Mark swam a 2:13.57.

Two Mustang teams swam during the 200-yard Medley Relay. Aiden Dill, Mark, Noah Abd, and Nick Bierstein represented the first team, while Lebron, Brandon Cogdill, Keon Pugh, and Justin Watts swam for the second team. The first team competed in Heat A and finished in 7th with a time of 1:41.17, while the second team finished 19th, swimming a time of 1:45.98.

Day two of the MAC Championships continues tomorrow. The preliminary session begins at 9:30, while the finals start at 5:30. The 400IM, 100-yard Butterfly, and the 200 Free will be the events highlighted tomorrow.
