Women’s Lacrosse falls to No. 8 Salisbury in season opener

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (0-1) fell to No. 8 nationally ranked Salisbury (1-0), 13-5, on Wednesday evening.

The first quarter featured a competitive back-and-forth battle. Salisbury struck first at the 14:05 mark, but Ava Treakle evened the score midway through the period. The Seagulls responded with two straight goals before Olivia Galati found the back of the net with 2:14 remaining to cut the deficit to 3-2. Salisbury added one more goal late in the quarter to take a 4-2 lead into the second.

Salisbury opened the second-quarter scoring with 3:54 on the clock, but Galati answered once again for Stevenson off an assist from Alice Petersen. The Seagulls netted their sixth goal with 21 seconds remaining in the half to carry a 6-3 advantage into the break.

The Seagulls began the third quarter with a four-goal run to extend their lead. Galati halted the momentum at the 2:07 mark, completing her hat trick on a feed from Megan Greenwell to make it 10-4 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Salisbury added three more goals to stretch the lead to 13-4. With under two minutes remaining, Emma Carpenter capitalized on a setup from Treakle to account for Stevenson's final goal of the night. Salisbury secured the 13-5 victory.

Galati led Stevenson with three goals and four draw controls, while Treakle added two points and three draw controls. Defensively, Rachel McDonough caused three turnovers, and Evangelina Baldo recorded two. Emily Steinberg made her first collegiate start in goal, finishing with 14 saves.

Stevenson will return to action on Saturday with a road matchup at Juniata. First draw is scheduled for noon.
