Simard Notches First Career Goal as Women's Soccer Takes Down Penn State Abington

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Penn State Abington on Tuesday evening at Owings Mills East. The Mustangs scored once in each half while controlling the attack throughout the contest, outshooting the Nittany Lions, 27-5.

Stevenson wasted little time getting on the board, striking in the ninth minute. Courtney Keehner connected with Madison Simard, who found the back of the net at the 8:49 mark to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 advantage.

The Mustangs continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half. Kailyn Beall put an attempt on frame in the 18th minute before Grace Fay forced another save from Penn State Abington goalkeeper in the 22nd. Karly Sheahan followed with a shot on goal in the 31st minute, while Saleigha Fennel and Alegra Serrano each tested the goalkeeper later in the half. Stevenson carried its 1-0 advantage into the break after holding a 12-1 edge in shots through the opening 45 minutes.

Stevenson picked up where it left off after halftime, generating several opportunities before doubling its advantage in the 57th minute. Keehner once again provided the setup, this time finding Nyla Behram for the finish at 56:25 to extend the Mustang lead to 2-0. Keehner finished the evening with assists on both Stevenson goals.

The Mustangs continued to push offensively over the final 30 minutes. Faith Moroney put a shot on goal in the 77th minute, while Ashley Bowman recorded three late attempts, including one that forced a save in the 82nd. Beall added Stevenson's final shot on goal in the 89th minute.

Behram and Sheahan paced the Mustangs with four shots apiece, while Beall put all three of her attempts on target. Sophia Valenzano played all 90 minutes in goal, making two saves to secure the shutout.

The Mustangs return to action when they travel to Alvernia University on Friday to take on the Goldenwolves at 7 p.m. for a MAC Commonwealth match-up.
