Tanguay Nets Two as Men's Soccer Pushes Past Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Stevenson University men's soccer team secured a 4-2 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon at Alvernia Turf Field. The Mustangs improved to 7-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth play, while the Golden Wolves fell to 4-5-3 overall and 0-1-2 in conference action.

Stevenson wasted little time establishing its offensive presence, generating several opportunities throughout the opening half. After a pair of early attempts from Kameron Ross, the Mustangs broke through in the 24th minute when Levi Tanguay found the back of the net off an assist from Jorge Montecinos to give Stevenson a 1-0 advantage.

The Mustangs continued to apply pressure, as Nick Gervase recorded a shot on goal in the 25th minute that was turned away by Alvernia goalkeeper. Stevenson doubled its lead in the 34th minute when Montecinos netted an unassisted goal, sending the Mustangs into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Alvernia responded in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 60th minute when they converted a penalty kick. However, Stevenson quickly regained momentum, as Gervase found the back of the net in the 67th minute off an assist from Tanguay to extend the Mustangs' lead to 3-1.

Just over three minutes later, Stevenson struck again when Tanguay recorded his second goal of the afternoon in the 71st minute, finishing an opportunity set up by Gervase to push the advantage to 4-1.

The Golden Wolves added a late goal in the 89th minute when they found the back of the net, but the Mustangs maintained control to secure the 4-2 conference victory.

Tanguay led Stevenson's offensive efforts with two goals and an assist, while Gervase contributed a goal and an assist. Montecinos also made an impact, finishing with a goal and an assist.

The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern University for a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match-up on Owings Mills East at 7 p.m.
