WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (2-12-1 overall, 2-8-1 MAC) earned a 3-0 victory over King's (Pa.) (0-15-0 overall, 0-11-0 MAC) on Friday afternoon.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first period before Emma DeMan opened the scoring midway through the second, netting a power-play goal at the 10:20 mark off an assist from Kiana Baker. Carleigh Barwick followed with a shorthanded goal just under three minutes remaining in the period, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Meghan Croyle sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the closing minute of the third period.
Stevenson controlled the pace throughout the contest, outshooting the Monarchs 52-23 and winning 48 of 72 faceoffs, with DeMan accounting for 24 wins on the faceoff. Four different Mustangs recorded a point, while Maggie Sehnert earned the shutout in net with 23 saves.
The Mustangs will conclude the weekend series against King's on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Body Zone in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
