SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Stevenson University softball team took advantage of several Susquehanna errors on Wednesday, as the Mustangs (15-5) defeated the River Hawks (6-3) 9-1 in five innings in game one of a scheduled doubleheader.
The second game - in which Stevenson was leading 5-1 in the bottom of the second - was halted due to weather and may be resumed at a later date.Â
The Mustangs scored seven runs in the top of the third inning, breaking open a scoreless contest. Rebecca Maiorano had the big blow, a three-run double to left center that scored Mykaela Getz, McKenzie Tobler and Sahara Ward.Â
Maiorano went 1-for-3 in the contest with three RBI, while Getz, Ava Stafursky, Danielle Mills, Rebecca Henry, Ward and Caylee Cliett also hit safety.Â
The nine runs were more than enough for starting pitcher Angelica Gurevich who went five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking two.Â
Stevenson heads to Albright on Saturday, weather permitting.
