OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Facing MAC Commonwealth leading Messiah at home on Saturday, the Stevenson University baseball team pulled even with the Falcons in game one before dropping the opener of the doubleheader 15-10.
In game two, Messiah won by a 17-1 count in seven innings.
Game 1 – Messiah 15, Stevenson 10
The Mustangs (7-18, 2-7 MACC) collected 11 hits in the opener with
Collin Palmieri getting three and
Dalton Reinhart netting two.
Stevenson pulled even in the first as
Liam Houghton scored on a throwing error – one of seven committed by the Falcons in the opener.
After the Falcons (14-9, 9-0 MACC) took a 6-1 after 3.5 innings, Stevenson struck back with a four-run fourth as
Christopher Manco and
Sam Batiancila scored on error, followed by a two-run triple to center by Palmieri that scored Reinhart and
Nick Griffin.
The Falcons then went up 8-5 before Stevenson again rallied with a three-run spot in the bottom of the fifth as Manco doubled down the line scoring
Brandon Perillo. Manco would score on a wild pitch followed by a single from Griffin that scored
Graham Sears.
Messiah put the game out of reach in the sixth with six runs in the top of the frame.
Caden Dail took the loss, giving up three runs in the six.
John Delgado struck out four and walked four in three innings, getting a no decision.
Game 2 – Messiah 17, Stevenson 1 (7 innings)
The Falcons built a 7-0 lead after three innings as Stevenson was held to three hits, as Reinhart, Palmieri and Batiancila hit safely.
Jaylon Surell scored the Mustangs lone run, on an error after an out in the seventh inning.
Zane Stone look the loss, falling to 2-3. He struck out and walked two in 2.2 innings of work.
Stevenson heads to Lancaster Bible on Tuesday.
