Westminster, Md. (November 7) — The Stevenson women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 season on the road Friday night, showing flashes of promise and resilience in a 63–43 setback to McDaniel inside the Gill Center.
After a slow start offensively, the Mustangs found their rhythm in the second half, highlighted by a 17-point fourth quarter that showcased their depth and defensive energy.
Senior forward
Tessa Boswell led Stevenson with 11 points and seven rebounds, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.
Janiya Ennis added 10 points, three boards, and two assists, while
Anaya Price chipped in seven points off the bench to pace the Mustang offense.
Stevenson traded early baskets with McDaniel, as
Nadia Ferguson got the Mustangs on the board with a strong drive to the rim before
Sanaa Thorne finished through contact to tie the game midway through the first quarter. A steal and layup from Boswell briefly pulled Stevenson even, but the Green Terror closed the frame ahead, 18–9.
The Mustangs kept the pressure on in the second quarter. Ennis connected on a jumper from the wing, and
Janie Smith buried a three-pointer to cut the deficit to seven. Defensively, Boswell's hustle on the boards and
Destiny Towns' presence inside helped hold McDaniel to just five made field goals in the period, sending the Mustangs into halftime trailing 30–21.
McDaniel extended its advantage coming out of the break, but Stevenson continued to battle. Price drained a three from the corner and Ennis added a pair of quick layups to spark momentum heading into the fourth. The Mustangs saved their best quarter for last, outscoring McDaniel 17–14 behind improved ball movement and confident shooting.
Despite the loss, Stevenson showed encouraging balance—nine different players recorded points, and the Mustangs pulled down 35 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive glass.
Stevenson looks towards day two of the Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off on Saturday, November 8, as they will face Juniata at 4:00 p.m. in the consolation game.
