YORK, Pa. - Stevenson tallied five top five results in their second place effort at the conclusion of day one events for the Spartan Invitational.
The Mustangs started quickly, in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay
Keon Pugh,
Brandon Cogdill,
Justin Watts, and
Zachary Clark recorded a fifth place time of 1:30.97, recording a new season-best for their team.
Brendan Lach followed up his teammates performance with a fifth place 500-yard Freestyle result. He recorded a 5:02.75 in the preliminary heat, setting a new season-best for Stevenson and a new career-best.
The next event, the 200-yard IM, Clark and
William Lebron finished second and fourth respectively. The pair were separated by less than two seconds, both of which swam faster than the season-best set at the Stevenson Tri-Meet. Clark's time of 2:02.43 is the new benchmark of the Mustangs.
Only Pugh qualified for the finals of the 50-yard Freestyle for his team. He finished 13th and swam a 22.66, setting a new Stevenson season-best and career-best.
The final event of the day was the 400-yard Medley Relay, swam by Lebron, Cogdill, Clark, and Watts. The group swam a 3:42.84 and finished in fourth to round out they results from day one.
Currently, 33 points separate second through sixth with two days worth of events still to play. Stevenson hold a narrow nine point lead over Widener Univeristy in third, and sit 161 points behind the current event leaders, York College (Pa.). Â
