Mustangs dealt road loss from Spartans

YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson women's basketball team fell 61-69 to the York (Pa.) Spartans on Wednesday evening. Stephenae Lawrence netted a career high of 18 points in the contest.
 
Janiya Ennis put the first two points on the board in the contest with a jumper 19-seconds in. The Spartans tied it, but about a minute later, Lawrence put up a layup off a pass from Tessa Boswell to notch the 4-2 lead. York replied with an offensive drive to put up another 12 points, while holding the Mustangs to two, which secured a 16-6 lead. In the second quarter, the Mustangs closed in on York's lead to make it a 30-22 game at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Stevenson came out with offensive drive and closed the scoring gap to just two points. With 1:47 on the clock in the third, Nadia Ferguson put up a basket to close the Spartans lead 42-40. York then put up five points to make it a 47-40 game heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter the Mustangs came out fierce, but York continued to produce offensively to grab the 69-61 win. 
 
Lawrence led Stevenson in the points column with 18 on the evening, while also grabbing three rebounds and two steals. Ennis contributed a 13-point night with two rebounds, assists, and steals. Boswell netted 12 points and led the team with seven rebounds and three assists. Erin Dixon tallied 11 points for the Mustangs while also grabbing two rebounds and an assist and steal.
 
The Mustangs will return home and prepare to battle Albright in Owings Mills Gymnasium at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
