OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In the opening night of the two-day Stevenson University Quad, the Stevenson University women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Gallaudet 3-1 on Friday night.
Set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-19.
Rachel Lenz led the way with 13 kills for Stevenson, while
Zakara Masibo had ten.
Giulia Viglietta added in eight. The Mustangs (3-2) hit .213 in the match with a clip of .333 in the first set (15-4-33).
Rachel Lenz had four blocks, with Masibo adding in three.
Makala Thompson had 20 assists followed by
Samantha Simmers with 17. Defensively,
Nicolette Fuglestad had 12 digs.
Stevenson will take on Arcadia and Salisbury tomorrow in day two of the Quad.
The first set saw Stevenson trail 12-5 before rallying to get within one at 12-11 as Lenz had a pair of kills during the scoring run. After tying the score at 14, Stevenson saw Gallaudet go on a 5-1 scoring streak to take the lead for good. Stevenson would only get within one at 21-20.
In the second set, the Mustang led early at 5-2 then went up 14-10 as Lenz,
Giulia Viglietta and Masibo collected kills. Leading by two, Stevenson increased the lead to 20-14 and never trailed the rest of the way.
The third set saw Stevenson take an early 6-2 lead, before Gallaudet rattled off five straight points to go up 7-6. With the score tied at 12, Gallaudet outscored the Mustangs 9-0 to go up 21-12 and win set three 25-14.
In the fourth and deciding set, both teams traded early leads before Gallaudet pulled away late.
Stevenson hosts Arcadia and Salisbury tomorrow in day two of the Quad.
