OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson baseball (9-23) was up by one before overtaken by the Neumann University Knights (14-16) on Tuesday afternoon. The final was a low 2-1.
With only two scoring plays in the game, the first arrived in the fifth inning for the Mustangs. Sophomore outfielder
Collin Palmieri hit a double down the left line. A stolen base from sophomore third baseman
Noah Joly and a throwing error by the Knights allowed him to advance to third. Palmieri scored from third on the play.
Maintaining their lead for three more innings, the Mustangs were outlasted by a homer from the Knights, allowing two runs.
In the loss, the Mustangs secured three hits on four walks with six left on base. On the mound, first-year
John Delgado had a last performance, pitching for 6.0 innings and striking out nine against three walks and five hits. Relieving Delgado, sophomore
Brendan Phillips took the loss with three strikeouts against a hit and the runs from the Knights.
The Mustangs next take on the Catholic University of America Cardinals on the road on Wednesday, April 24 at 5 p.m.
